Health Checks

The NHS Health Check programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease.

Everyone between the ages of 40 and 74, who has not been diagnosed with one of these conditions, will be invited (once every 5 years) to have a check to assess their risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and diabetes and will be given support and advice to help them reduce or manage that risk.

We will be writing to all eligible patients and setting up a rolling programme of testing in the coming months.

If you have not yet heard from us and would like a review now then please contact us and we will arrange an appointment for you.

Test Results

The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection.

We will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

Non NHS Services

Some services provided by the surgery are not covered by the NHS and attract a fee.

A list of these is displayed at reception and can be found below.

All fees will be payable on completion of the report or examination and a receipt will be given on request.

Please note that medical examinations need to be booked in advance and usually take place early to mid afternoon.

Registering with an NHS dentist

You can find local NHS dental practices that are accepting new patients on the NHS Choices website, or alternatively you can call NHS 111 and speak to an advisor.

Immunisation

The Practice Nurse will arrange immunisations for travel; a fee may be payable for some vaccines.

Please ask at reception for details at least six weeks before you travel.

Immunisations for tetanus, rubella and hepatitis can also be arranged.

Influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged over 65 years and those people with asthma, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases.

Pneumococcal vaccination is also recommended for patients aged 65 and over (this is usually a once only vaccination).

Smoking Cessation

Smokers who wish to stop can see the wellness advisor from the Kirklees Wellness Service for advice and help. Clinics are held at the practice fortnightly – please ask a member of the reception team to book you an appointment.

If you need counselling, the doctor will refer you to see a trained counsellor.

Alternatively you can refer yourself to the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) team on 01484 343700.
